The Janet & Rupert Banton Foundation

Jamaicans are exceptional people. And the most exceptional are those who in their life’s work sacrifice in the interest of others -- their children, their families, their communities. Janet and Rupert Banton were among the most exceptional and are worthy of celebration. Of modest education and means, they invested to put their children through schooling that well surpassed their own. They were the patriarch and matriarch of a large extended family where their house was “home base.” They helped knit together a tighter community through exemplary character and by never once entertaining the thought of leaving for what others may consider greener pastures. In Mrs. Janet Banton’s case, she strengthened her community through a relentless, pervasive spirit of giving – not based on what she could afford but regardless of what she could afford.

In light of the above, The Janet & Rupert Banton Foundation was founded in 2019 to honor their memories, both having left us far too soon. The Foundation will champion, steward and fund efforts to support the academic advancement of students from communities in St. Elizabeth and enhance health and wellness in those same communities. It is a registered non profit under the Jamaica Charities Act.
